Buxton Fire Brigade

Radio Replacement Training

This morning a large number of our members, including four of our Melbourne-based members, completed the face-to-face training for the new Motorola radios that will be rolled out in District 12 after the declared Fire Danger Period is terminated. The training was conducted by Isaac who travelled over to Mitchell Shire Group late last year to undertake the train-the-trainer course and is now assisting the local brigades get to know the new radios.

CFA’s Radio Replacement Program aims to deliver the replacement of the current radio inventory across the State including all mobiles, portables, bag radios and local bases. There is also provision for a large number of additional radios to be funded under the program, significantly increasing CFA's current capability.

At Buxton, we will receive additional portable radios including a dedicated radio for each Breathing Apparatus operator, greatly improving firefighter safety. The vehicle radios will both have dedicated remote hand-mic's that will enable the pump operators to remain in contact with others on the fireground.

CFA's current radio, the Tait TM/TP9100 series, has been in service since 2009 and the technology is now out of date. The radio itself is no longer in production. The new Motorola radios will introduce a technology refresh with enhanced features and functionality.

Afterwards, we completed the Survival on Foot refresher and Entrapment Drills (on both appliances) for a Melbourne-based member who recently returned from overseas.

A busy but informative morning made even more enjoyable by a hearty serve of Donna's home-made sausage rolls.
