Grass Fire in Taggerty

Around 1:30pm this afternoon, Buxton was responded to support Taggerty Fire Brigade to a report of a column of smoke along Cathedral Lane, Taggerty.

Buxton Tanker 1 was quickly out the door and was able to see the smoke column by the time they got to the northern end of the township and requested additional resources be responded. In addition to the initial responded brigades of Taggerty, Buxton, and Thornton, this resulted in tankers being responded from Acheron, Alexandra Fire Brigade, Eildon, Koriella Fire Brigade, Whanregarwen, Marysville Fire Brigade - CFA, and Narbethong Volunteer Fire Brigade -Est 1962. A crew from Forest Fire Management Victoria also attended and assisted and Forward Control Vehicles were responded from Eildon and Alexandra to support the tankers.

Thanks to the rapid knock down and containment of the fire, many of the additional resources were able to be turned around before arriving at the fire.

Following our return to station and restoring Tanker 1 to service, we received an email from the property owners with some of the photos, posted here, and a lovely message saying Thank you all so much for today - honestly, we cannot thank you enough.

The cause of the fire wasn't suspicious and is believed to be related to a fault in a water pump. This is a good reminder to keep areas around farm equipment clear of grass and other flammable materials.

With a Long Weekend and a lot of visitors to our area, and a hot day on Monday, we urge everyone to be fire safe and enjoy the environs with care. Drive safely and be courteous to other road users who may be unfamiliar with our roads.
