Buxton Fire Brigade is committed to working with our Community to reduce the occurrence and impacts of fire and other emergencies; ensuring Your Safety is a shared responsibility. We do this by ensuring we are prepared and able to respond to fires and other emergencies, but also (and more importantly) by providing advice, training, and services that enable you to improve your own safety.
Whether delivering community education programs to prevent fires or responding effectively to fires and other emergencies that have occurred, the services we deliver seek to achieve a simple vision – a community that is prepared for and safe from fire and other emergencies.
Our brigade comprises people that are a dedicated and skilled team, performing roles beyond fire suppression; educating and engaging the community, helping residents develop fire plans and responding to other emergencies when they happen. Our valued advice and knowledge in fire behaviour, fire safety, incident management and community preparation add further strength to Victoria’s trusted and united emergency services sector.
Community Engagement – Talking with Community
CFA’s vision for communities to be prepared for and safe from fire and other emergencies, starts with what we can do to help you understand and manage the risk of fire and emergencies. Talking with you and the rest of our community (what we call Community Engagement) is a core part of what we do at CFA to enhance your knowledge and prepare your and the community for the possibility of fire and other emergencies.
We don’t just deal with bushfires; we deal with all risks in an all-hazards world all year round.
However, engagement is not a one-way street. This means that CFA takes a role in helping you (along with the rest of our community) to develop your skills and your understanding of the risk and hazards you may face living in our area, while encouraging the entire community to take an active part in living safely with fire and other emergencies.
We are available All Year
We are a fully volunteer CFA brigade and we are available to engage with you and the rest of the community all year round. We run community safety meetings, bushfire planning workshops, recruitment activities, open days, and many more ways to help you and others learn about fire safety and connect with us, your brigade, in a fun and engaging way.
What we do to help you look after Your Safety
Simply put – what we can do to help you depends on your needs. In addition to undertaking various community activities (such as collecting for the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal on Good Friday and conducting the annual Santa Run on Christmas Eve) which are simply intended to enable the brigade to connect with people, we offer a range of programs designed to help you prepare for emergencies.
These include Property Advice Visits, Home Fire Safety planning, Smoke Alarm installations for vulnerable people, providing advice on fuel reduction activities, and giving advice on bushfire safety.
Further information on these programs is provided under the separate links on this page (top left).
